Hi friends! The first week of the Tim Holtz Holiday 2017 Inspiration Series is underway and has been amazing! You can check out all the projects on Tim's Instagram or catch the recap on the Tim Holtz blog every Saturdays.
Today I'd like to share different coloring techniques for the new Salvaged Santa. Santa Claus is the perfect icon for Christmas and the new Tim Holtz Salvage Santa has that old vintage look from years gone by. The miniature figurine comes in a 2 pack and measures about 2" tall, perfect for assemblage projects, mixed media and more.
Classic Santa - Distress Paint
Use a small brush and paint the Santa with Distress Paint.
Apply Distress Paint to craft sheet.
Pick up paint with brush,
paint one color at a time and dry between each color.
Once the Distress Paint is dry, color Distress Crayons on to craft sheet, add a little water for your Waterbrush and add the color to Santa to enhance the cracks and crevasses of the face, beard, belt, coat, etc.

Distress Paint - Festive Berries, Pine Needles, Black Soot
Distress Crayons - Hickory Smoke
Elegant Santa - Alcohol Ink (Gold)
Apply Gold Metallic Mixative to craft sheet, pick up ink with tiny brush and paint Santa's coat and pants.
Paint boots and belt with Black Soot Distress Paint.
Enhance the crevasse and creases with Distress Crayons. Apply Distress Crayons to craft sheet, add a little water from Waterbrush, and color Santa.

Distress Paint - Black Soot
Distress Crayons - Hickory Smoke, Tarnish Brass
Vintage Santa - Alcohol Ink (Mushroom)
This Santa is inspired by Paula Cheney's project from the Tim Holtz Facebook Live Idea-ology release.
Apply Mushroom Alcohol Ink to a cotton swab and rub over Santa to Color. If you apply to much use Blending Solution to remove ink if needed.

Note - Distress Rock Candy Glitter was added to fur and beard with Distress Collage Medium.

Well, I don't have to wonder any more about how to paint my two Santas, I think one traditional and one gold, it looks amazing in gold!! Thanks for sharing your tips.
I just painted 12 of these. 1st I used mushroom AI (I will skip this next time). Then I painted. Then a coat of collage medium all over (to help the paint stay on). Then I added watered down black paint then I wiped off (you know so it gets into all the details). Once dry I added Tim's glitter to the "fur". Love this little Santa!
This is just what I needed!!
I had no idea what I was doing if I attempted to color this.
