Hello friends! Everyone wants a beautiful bag to carry things home with right! I used me scraps from my previous project and adapted this Market Tote pattern from Sotak Handmade. I found the pattern on Etsy. The Palette fabrics by Tim Holtz for FreeSpirit Fabrics in PINK, RED, ORANGE and YELLOW are perfect for our Tote today.
Fabric - Palette by Tim Holtz
Pattern - Market Tote by Sotak Handmade
* I pulled out my stash and I had several strips that were 2 1/2" and 1 1/2" So I decided to go with them but you can cut your own size.
* Cut the lining fabric and batting a few inches larger than the pattern calls for.
Layer the lining on the batting and bast together. I used spray bast.
* Start at one end and add your strips one at a time.
This is called a quilt as you go method.
Lay two strips over the batting with right sides together and sew with a 1/4" seam allowance.
* Continue adding strips and pressing as you go until the piece of batting is covered.
* Tack the ends down by sewing a victory lap all the way around 1/8" from the edges.
This will help lock the stitches in.
* Fold over the edges and add the strap.
I used leather straps but you could also use webbing.
* Pin or clip the sides folding up the bottom as per the pattern.
With wrong sides together sew the sides together with a 1/8" seam allowance
* Turn the tote Wrong side out, press the edges and clip to hold in place.
Sew 1/4" from the edge. Now you have created a French seam with ne raw edges.
